Media, PA – District Attorney Jack Stollsteimer today announced that charges have been filed against Anthony Jordan, 18, aka “Backdoor _Phat”, in the December 2020 murder of Zamir Abdullah, 19. He has been charged with murder of the first-, second-, and third- degree, as well as conspiracy, robbery, aggravated assault and related firearms charges. In addition, he has been charged with attempted murder of the first degree, robbery and aggravated assault in connection with a second and third victim who were injured in the incident. A second suspect – Kysir Brokenbough, 20, of Claymont, Delaware, is still at-large.

“This is yet another case where guns and drugs have led to the senseless murder of a teenaged victim by a teenaged suspect. I continue to bring attention to these cases because even as my office works hard to prevent these crimes, we are equally committed to solving them. Under the leadership of Deputy District Attorney Matt Krouse, the Gun Violence Task Force focuses every day on both facets of the scourge of gun violence: prevention AND investigation. My office is committed to bringing the perpetrators of this violence to justice – it is important for the victim, for the victim’s family and for the entire community,” said District Attorney Stollsteimer.

On Thursday, December 9, 2020, Chester Police officers responded to the area of 500 W. 6th Street, Chester City, for an overturned vehicle with one person trapped in the vehicle. The 911 callers indicated that passengers had fled the scene. The driver of the vehicle was unresponsive and had suffered a gunshot wound to the head. The victim, Zamir Abdullah, was transported to Crozer-Chester Medical Center where he succumbed to his injuries. As officers were tending to the victim, other officers of the Chester Police Department were flagged down by two individuals in the area of W. 9th and Barclay Streets. Both individuals were injured, with one suffering from gunshot wounds to the abdomen and foot. Both were transported to Crozer- Chester Medical Center for treatment. Both victims survived their injuries.

The crime scene at 500 W. 6th Street was investigated, and an approximately one-pound package of marijuana was found on the floor of the front passenger side of the vehicle. Surveillance video was obtained for the area around the crime scene before, during and after the incident. The footage captured two suspects walking toward the victim’s car and, upon reaching it, taking positions on opposite sides of the car. After the shooting occurred, the two suspects ran north on the 600 block of Butler Street; the victim’s vehicle traveled east on W. 6th Street, where it crashed. Additional video footage was obtained which allowed detectives to track the movements of both suspects prior to the shooting. The surveillance video was shown to multiple witnesses, and through further interviews detectives were able to identify the suspects as Anthony Jordan and Kysir Brokenbough. Additional forensic investigation of a victim’s cell phone, various social media accounts, and witness statements confirmed the identity of the defendant Anthony Jordan.

The public’s help is sought in the apprehension of the second suspect, Kysir Brokenbough. He is approximately 5’8’’, 155 lbs. He frequents areas in and around Claymont, Delaware. If you have any information regarding his whereabouts, please contact Detective Victor Heness of the Chester Police Department at 610-724-4288.

“The Chester Police Department is to be commended for their work on this case – Detective Victor Heness, Detective Brian Pot, as well as Detective Timothy Deery of the Criminal Investigation Division. I am confident that their continued efforts on this case will bring the second suspect to face justice,” said Stollsteimer.

The suspect is being held without bail at the George W. Hill Correctional Facility. His preliminary hearing date is March 2, 2021 in front of Judge Dawn Vann.
