Media, PA – District Attorney Jack Stollsteimer today announced that charges have been filed against a fifteen year old juvenile for the murder of Rasheen Jones, 20, and Kwann Henderson, 19, both of Philadelphia. Jones was an aspiring rapper known as RunUp Rico. The juvenile has been charged with first-, second- and third- degree murder, criminal homicide, robbery, possession of a firearm by a minor, and related charges. The arrest was the result of an investigation led by Detective David Tyler of the Criminal Investigation Division (CID) and Detective Mike Canfield of the Chester Police Department.
“This was a cold blooded double murder by a young person who was – at the time of the murder – only 14 years old. His victims were only 19 and 20. This epitomizes the truly senseless violence that exists on our streets today. I must commend the hard work of the law enforcement officers involved with this case; however, as proud as I am of their work, my heart breaks for the families of the victims – and the entire Chester community. This is tragedy on all fronts,” said District Attorney Stollsteimer.
On February 1, 2021 Chester Police were called to West 3rd and Lamokin Streets at about 7:23 p.m. for a report of a gunshot victim. Upon arrival, officers found a crowd of people around a silver Chevrolet Impala that appeared to have crashed into a building on the 1100 block of West Third Street. As officers approached the driver’s side of the vehicle, they observed two black males laying on top of one another half way out of the vehicle. Both victims had sustained gunshot wounds. Jones was pronounced dead at the scene by responding medical personnel. Henderson was transported to Crozier Chester Medical Center where he later succumbed to his injuries.
Detectives recovered surveillance video from inside and outside the convenience store located at 1100 West 3rd Street. Footage from shortly before the incident captured the decedent’s vehicle parked in front of the store. At the same time, two males were observed walking south in the 300 block of Pennell Street, toward the convenience store. They briefly approached the car and then entered the convenience store. Upon leaving the store, video surveillance captured the suspect approaching the vehicle and standing at the driver’s side door for several minutes. Thereafter, he can be seen raising his arm, consistent with firing a weapon. Immediately thereafter, the suspect left the scene on foot. At that time, the vehicle can be seen driving west and crashing into a building at 1105 West 3rd. Detectives were able to identify the suspect using video footage from inside the store, which captured the face of the juvenile defendant. The video footage was viewed by two witnesses, and each was able to confirm the identity of the suspect. In addition, a member of the Chester Police Department also viewed the video footage and was able to confirm the suspect’s identity as a result of previous interactions with the suspect.
The suspect is being held without bail at the George W. Hill Correctional Facility. No date has been set for the preliminary hearing.
