Media, PA – District Attorney Jack Stollsteimer today announced that charges have been filed against the third and final suspect wanted in connection with a double homicide that occurred in Chester, PA on February 1, 2021. Darren Majeed, 27, was taken into custody on June 4, 2021, and has been charged with the shooting deaths of Rasheen Jones, 20, and Kwan Henderson, 19. On February 19, 2021, the DA announced the arrest of the first juvenile in connection with this double homicide, and a second juvenile was taken into custody the following month. Majeed’s arrest, for criminal homicide, first-, second- and third- degree murder, robbery, theft, possession of a firearm by a minor, conspiracy, and related charges, brings the extensive investigation to a close.
“Working closely with the Chester Police Department, County Detectives were able to quickly identify the parties responsible for the February murder of Jones and Henderson,” said DA Stollsteimer. “It was a combination of detailed evidence gathering, forensic analyses, and great team work that helped identify and locate all the alleged conspirators.” Majeed, the last to be arrested, and who attempted to avoid apprehension, was taken into custody without harm to himself, the community he retreated to, or the members of law enforcement who brought him in.
“Today’s arrest was the culmination of months of work by many individuals, particularly Detective David Tyler, who headed the investigation, and Detective Tim Deery of the Criminal Investigation Division, as well as Detective Mike Canfield and Officer Marc Barag of the Chester Police Department. The evidence came through the hard work of ballistics experts, cell phone forensic experts, and with guidance from the Gun Violence Task Force led by Deputy District Attorney Matt Krouse,” Stollsteimer added. “The defendants’ casual use of everyday communications equipment is a particularly chilling aspect of these killings; kudos to the all the professionals who worked tirelessly and collaboratively to apprehend the suspects so they can face these weighty charges,” the DA concluded.
The defendant was arraigned before Magisterial District Judge Keith Williams and is being held without bail at the George W. Hill Correctional Facility. The preliminary hearing is scheduled for June 22, 2021.
CRIMINAL CHARGES, AND ANY DISCUSSION THEREOF, ARE ALLEGATIONS AND ALL DEFENDANTS ARE PRESUMED INNOCENT UNLESS AND UNTIL PROVEN GUILTY.
