MEDIA, PA – District Attorney Jack Stollsteimer and Mayor Stefan Roots today announced the start of Operation Chester Safe Summer, an intensive community policing initiative to help reduce violent crime in the City of Chester this summer.
“Operation Chester Safe Summer builds on the work of the Chester Partnership for Safe Neighborhoods, our community-law enforcement partnership which has helped reduce shootings in the City by 54% since its inception in October of 2020,” said District Attorney Jack Stollsteimer. “I’m doubling down on our commitment to reducing violence in the City this summer by adding more resources to ensure we have as many Chester Police Officers as possible on the streets keeping residents safe,” Stollsteimer continued.
“Our partnership with the District Attorney’s Office and the incredibly hard work of our Chester Police Department has given people in Chester the chance to enjoy the wonderful sense of community that comes alive in the City in the summer,” said Mayor Stefan Roots. “As Mayor, I’ve encouraged our community partners to provide as many programs as possible to give our young people something positive to do once school is out. “Let’s all work together to ensure the success of Operation Chester Safe Summer,” Roots continued.
“The men and women of the Chester Police Department are committed to the concept of community policing and with the added funding provided by District Attorney Stollsteimer, we’ll be able to have our officers more visible in the community deterring crime and serving our residents,” said Interim Commissioner Katrina Blackwell.
In addition to increased police patrols, the Chester Partnership for Safe Neighborhoods (CPSN) will be hosting a series of neighborhood parties celebrating the “C-Pride” of the Chester community. The first CPSN neighborhood party will be on June 22, 2025, from 3-7pm in the New Homes Section of the City.
The City encourages parents, guardians, and youth to regularly visit www.chestercity.com/safesummer for an active listing of safe summer activities available in and around Chester.
The District Attorney and the Criminal Investigations Division remind anyone in Delaware County who observes suspicious activity to call 911 immediately and provide the most specific and accurate details possible to assist law enforcement agencies investigating the call for service.
