New York defendant sentenced to life in prison in 2007 Sharon Hill stabbing
Media, PA – Today Delaware County District Attorney Katayoun M. Copeland announced Isaiah Goudy, 35, of Brooklyn, New York, who was found guilty of first degree murder after repeatedly stabbing and beating the victim, was sentenced to life imprisonment without parole. The victim, Gary Jenkins, was found deceased in his home on the 100 block of Reese Street during a well-being check by Sharon Hill Police Department in May 2007.
On May 30, 2019, Isaiah Goudy, also known as Izena Goudy, was convicted of first-degree murder and possessing instruments of crime following a jury trial before Delaware County Court of Common Pleas Judge Richard M. Cappelli. Goudy was sentenced today to life in prison without parole followed by two and a half to five years’ incarceration. The investigation was conducted by Sharon Hill Police Chief Richard Herron, Sharon Hill Police Officer Michael Attix, Sharon Hill Police Detective Vincent Port, CID Detective John Hoffner, who was working as a detective with the Sharon Hill Police Department at the time, Delaware County District Attorney’s Office Criminal Investigation Division (CID) Lieutenant William Wright, Detective Michael Palmer, Sergeant Dave McDonald and now retired Detectives William Welsh and William Costello, and the Pennsylvania State Police. The case was prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Matthew A. DeNucci, IV.
On May 7, 2007, at 12:37 p.m., Officer Attix of Sharon Hill Police Department was dispatched to the 100 block of Reese Street in Sharon Hill to check on the well-being of Gary Jenkins. Upon entry into the home, police found the victim dead on the floor and blood spatter throughout the hallway. The manner of death by the Medical Examiner was determined to be blunt force head injuries and multiple stab wounds. An investigation into the homicide was immediately launched and the crime scene was processed. Detectives retrieved blood swabs from throughout the house as well as a 30-pound dumbbell that appeared to have blood on it. The blood samples recovered from the scene were analyzed by a laboratory, and a DNA profile for an individual other than the victim was identified.
In 2014, Goudy was arrested in New York on unrelated charges, and after conviction, Goudy had to submit DNA for entry into a national DNA database. In 2017, a comparison of Isaiah Goudy’s DNA to the profile sample revealed that the DNA profile developed from the crime scene was consistent with Isaiah Goudy’s DNA. Witness interviews and investigation revealed that Goudy had repeatedly stabbed the victim and had struck the victim in the head with a 30-pound dumbbell causing multiple skull fractures. Finally, Goudy slashed the victim’s throat, severing his carotid artery.
“Isaiah Goudy is a violent and dangerous individual who ruthlessly murdered the victim in his own home, needlessly cutting his life tragically short,” said District Attorney Katayoun M. Copeland. “While we are satisfied with this sentence of life in prison, we know that it will not bring back the victim, Gary Jenkins, nor will it undo the damage this brutal murder caused his family and loved ones and the surrounding community. We commend the hard work by the Sharon Hill Police Department, the Delaware County’s District Attorney’s Office Criminal Investigation Division, the Pennsylvania State Police, Samantha Bass from Crime Victim Services for providing support to the family of the victim, and Assistant District Attorney Matthew A. DeNucci, whose excellent prosecutorial skills resulted in a first-degree murder conviction. As a result of excellent team work, the defendant will finally face the consequences of his actions.”
